NCWP Election - April 11, 2010

The Neighborhood Council of Westchester/Playa (NCWP) elections will be held on Sunday, April 11 from 9:00am to 3:00pm at 6200 Playa Vista Drive in Playa Vista. I am running for the At Large Seat #3 Director and I am running against another candidate.

When I was appointed to the NCWP in 2007, Public Safety had fallen off of the agenda of the NCWP. I got involved in the NCWP to increase the focus on issues related to public safety through the NCWP. Since I was appointed, I have coordinated a number of community meetings related to crime updates, burglary preventions, identity theft prevention, women's self defense, Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) and emergency preparedness and I really need your help in this election. My motivation in getting elected is to keep Pubic Safety on the agenda of the NCWP.

In my two and a half years on the NCWP, my involvement has increased. I started out as the chairperson of the Public Safety committee, then I took on the duties of treasurer and later was elected to be president. Being on the council can be a lot of work (for the motivated). I enjoy it very much and I have the right mix of motivation, enthusiasm, energy, ability, concern for the community and availability to do the job.

Under my leadership and direction as president, the NCWP has tackled a wide range of issues, including:
• out of concern for the growing homeless and people living in their cars, I established a committee to look at and address the growing issue related to homelessness in our community.
• hearing the concerns of the Playa del Rey residents, I set up a committee to develop a Community Design Overlay (CDO) for Culver Blvd in Playa del Rey, which addresses the look and feel of a community and, when adopted by the City, will serve as a roadmap for the city in approving development and improvement projects
• and created a committee to review the long-standing traffic and parking issues in the area. It is my hope that creative ideas will be generated through this effort which result in traffic calming measures adopted by the City and much needed parking for the area.
• I also established a committee to address the immediate development concerns in Playa del Rey.
• concerned with potential health implications of a DWP project, I created and served on a committee to understand the proposed Scattergood to Olympic High Voltage Power Line that was planned to tear thru the streets of Playa del Rey and Westchester. This project has been scrapped and in a large part because of the efforts of NCWP.

Please find a few minutes in your day on Sunday, April 11 to vote for your Neighborhood Council Directors. I would like the opportunity to continue to serve our community as a NCWP board member.

The following are my suggestions for other candidates that I hope that you will support. These candidates are people that I believe in and that you can support. Please feel free to share this with your friends.

I need and appreciate your support,
Cyndi Hench
